Football Recap: Northern Heights Comes Up Short

Northern Heights had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it six. They took a blow against the Lyndon Tigers, falling 52-6. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Tigers are ranked 14th).

As for Lyndon, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won six contests by 46 points or more so far this season.

Lyndon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but James Marcotte led the charge by rushing for 123 yards and two TDs on only eight carries. Marcotte's longest rush was for an impressive 69 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another big playmaker for Lyndon was Lucas Griffin, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Looking ahead, Northern Heights will head out to challenge West Elk at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Lyndon, they will host Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will be up against the Vikings' rather soft defense (which has allowed 44.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
