Baseball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Gatewood's 17th in Last 22 Outings

It's playoff time, and Gatewood had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors with a sharp 10-2 win on Friday. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Lawson Moore made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Ames Johnson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. What's more, he posted two runs, the most he's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jayden Moss, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Gatewood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Gatewood has been performing well recently as they've won 17 of their last 22 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Southwest Georgia Academy, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 25-5.

Gatewood will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Warriors: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
