Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Kimiko Hirahara and Ariana Cannon Lead Las Lomas to Victory

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Northgate, Las Lomas was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the San Leandro Pirates by a score of 50-40. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 66-47 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading Las Lomas to victory were Ariana Cannon and Kimiko Hirahara. Cannon dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards, while Hirahara posted 14 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cannon a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aisha Sandhu, who had 11 points and four steals.

Las Lomas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 19 consecutive contests.

Las Lomas pushed their record up to 14-11 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points over those games. As for San Leandro, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Looking ahead, Las Lomas will square off against Clayton Valley Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for San Leandro, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Castro Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. San Leandro is facing Castro Valley at the right time seeing as Castro Valley is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
