Softball Recap: Falcon Comes Up Short

Falcon had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 6-10 to make it five. They took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Widefield Gladiators. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 15-5 to the Gladiators when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Michelle Morales was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Maddy Andrews was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Widefield, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Widefield's side, Olivia McEwen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Evelyn Ibarra was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Madalyn Mitchell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Falcon will square off against Sand Creek at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Scorpions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.06 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Widefield, they will face off against Coronado at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.15 runs per game on average), something the Gladiators will no doubt try to take advantage of.
