Softball Recap: Ringgold Comes Up Short

Ringgold extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 5-16. They fell 4-0 to the Sonoraville Phoenix. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Phoenix this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in September.

Emorie Coles was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

As for Sonoraville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

On Sonoraville's side, Lila Mullinax looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Sonoraville's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Angel, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ringgold will venture away from home to face off against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sonoraville, they will head out to challenge LaFayette at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ramblers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Phoenix's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
