Game recap

Cromwell (Minn.) saw its 12-point lead dwindle to 10, but still managed to hang on and defeat McGregor (Minn.) 46-36 on Saturday.

After trailing 20-14 at the half, the Mercuries went ahead on a Andrew Demenge touchdown run with 8:00 to go in the third. Cromwell grabbed hold of the lead when Zach Kinstel ran for a touchdown with 3:00 remaining in the third quarter, and never relinquished it.

Both teams scored 14 points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at six entering the fourth.

CHS's standout player in the win was Jared Hutar. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns.

Demenge played well for McGregor. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.

The Cardinals got revenge for last year's 26-21 loss to MHS with the victory.

The loss comes after McGregor defeated Isle 30-28 last week. The loss snapped the Mercuries' 2-game winning streak.

Cromwell (3-2) will play a Great Northern (9 Man) game against Isle next week, while McGregor (2-3) will take on Floodwood also in a Great Northern (9 Man) game.
