Softball Recap: Centura Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Centura walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Freeman Falcons on Thursday.

Calleigh Sundberg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed eight innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emma Jacobs was a standout: she fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lauren Suntych, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Centura lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Centura has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Freeman, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 23-14.

Looking ahead, Centura will take on Kearney Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Stars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Centurions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Freeman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
