Football Recap: Defiance Sets Scoring Season-High Against Van Wert

Defiance extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-3. They fell 36-27 to the Van Wert Cougars. On the bright side, the 27- point effort marked the Bulldogs' highest-scoring matchup to date.

As for Van Wert, they pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 35.4 points this season.

Xavier Kelly continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Those 184 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zach Crummey, who threw for 175 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.

Coming up, Defiance will be playing at home against Shawnee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Van Wert, they will host Wapakoneta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Redskins have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
