Basketball Recap: Mt. Carmel Comes Up Short

Mt. Carmel played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt an 82-32 defeat at the hands of the La Costa Canyon Mavericks. The loss continues a trend for the Sundevils in their meetings with the Mavericks: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Mt. Carmel had strong showings from Ariana Gonzalez, who posted 12 points and four steals, and Kaelyn Nason, who scored six points. Gonzalez has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 27 times she's played.

Keani Brown was nothing short of spectacular for La Costa Canyon: she almost dropped a triple-double with 27 points, ten rebounds, and nine steals. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in field goal percentage (76%). Mia Mau was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to eight assists and seven steals.

Mt. Carmel's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Mt. Carmel will host Oceanside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for La Costa Canyon, they will take on San Diego in a tournament on Thursday.
