Basketball Recap: North Monterey County Comes Up Short

North Monterey County entered their game against Watsonville on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The North Monterey County Condors were dealt a 59-29 defeat at the hands of the Watsonville Wildcatz. While losing is never fun, the Condors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Wildcatz are ranked 163rd).

Watsonville was led to victory by Leilani Yasin and Isabella Alvarez. Yasin dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 boards, while Alvarez posted 20 points. With that strong performance, Yasin is now averaging an impressive 2.2 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Brooks, who put up five points in addition to six boards and three steals.

North Monterey County's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-1. As for Watsonville, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

North Monterey County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 39-24 defeat against McKinleyville on the 20th. As for Watsonville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-41 victory against Encinal on the 27th.
