Basketball Game Preview: University Trojans vs. Irvine Vaqueros

University is 1-9 against Irvine since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The University Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Irvine Vaqueros at 5:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

University is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 39-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northwood.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Asha Highsmith, who posted seven points. Christine Lin was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Irvine came up short against Laguna Beach on Wednesday, falling 53-31.

University's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Irvine, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.
