Basketball Game Preview: Anaheim Colonists vs. Los Osos Grizzlies

The Anaheim Colonists will be taking part in a tournament against the Los Osos Grizzlies at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Anaheim is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They had just enough and edged Magnolia out 55-52. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colonists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Anaheim to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ashley Guzman, who posted 25 points and five rebounds. Those 25 points gave Guzman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ana Merida, who had no points in addition to 11 rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Anaheim was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Los Osos came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 54-50 victory over the Huskies. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Huskies are ranked 591st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Anaheim better focus on containing Tory Johnson and Katie Freitas as the pair were huge in Los Osos' win. Johnson went 7 of 16 on her way to 18 points, while Freitas went 7 of 15 on her way to 14 points and three blocks.

Los Osos is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Anaheim, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
