Football Recap: Taft Takes a Loss

Taft lost against Eagle Pass back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Raiders were just a hair shy of victory and fell 29-28 to the Eagles.

A big part of Eagle Pass' win came down to the chemistry between Xavier Barrera and his top target Sebastian Velasquez. Barrera threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt while Velasquez picked up 252 receiving yards and three scores. Those 265 passing yards gave Barrera a new career-high.

Taft's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Eagle Pass, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Looking ahead, Taft will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Marshall at 7:00 p.m. This will be the Raiders' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Eagle Pass, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Canyon at 7:30 p.m. on the 19th.
