Softball Recap: Bear Creek's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Bear Creek had lost 12 straight, but after bumping their record up to 4-15 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Ralston Valley Mustangs by a score of 8-5. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Mustangs on their field since September 23, 2017.

Jiana Garduno made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chianna Morris, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylee Warner, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Bear Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

As for Ralston Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12. Mustangs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Bear Creek since Wednesday.

On Ralston Valley's side, Stella Emnott was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Bear Creek will square off against Lakewood at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Ralston Valley, they have already played their next matchup, a 6-5 defeat against Arvada West on the 2nd.
