Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Smithsburg). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Poolesville Falcons 48-0. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Leopards had established a 41-point advantage.

Smithsburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nick Roncone out in front who rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Roncone's longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Riley Carr was in the mix too, providing Smithsburg with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Smithsburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 286 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Smithsburg, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Dakota Sowers, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Smithsburg now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Poolesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Smithsburg will challenge Clear Spring at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Leopards are facing the Blazers at the right time seeing as the Blazers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Poolesville, they will take on Northwood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will be up against the Gladiators' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.8 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
