Baseball Recap: La Jolla Comes Up Short

The La Jolla Vikings didn't have quite enough to beat the Lincoln Hornets on Monday and fell 3-1. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Charlie Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits. He is becoming a predictor of La Jolla's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't).

At the plate, La Jolla saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Harper Lane, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

La Jolla's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Lincoln, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-7-1.

While La Jolla had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
