Basketball Recap: East Butler Takes a Loss

East Butler lost against Nebraska Lutheran back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The East Butler Tigers received a blow as they fell 55-38 to the Nebraska Lutheran Knights.

When it comes to explaining why East Butler lost, don't look at Lillie Kriz. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. That was a full 39.5% of East Butler's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Morgan Havlovic, who put up seven points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, East Butler was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nebraska Lutheran only posted five assists.

Nebraska Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samantha Hueske led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Hueske has become a key player for Nebraska Lutheran: the team is 5-1 when she posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. Rebecca Hueske was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards.

East Butler's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Nebraska Lutheran, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

East Butler wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 39-27 defeat against Dorchester on the 16th. Nebraska Lutheran has also already played their next contest, a 50-41 loss against High Plains on the 16th.
