Football Preview: Hampton Bulldogs vs. Mineral Springs Hornets

On Friday, Hampton didn't have too much trouble with Baptist Prep as they won 48-34.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hampton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Deondre Smith, who rushed for 81 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, and also picked up 65 receiving yards. Smith didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Another player making a difference was DJ Clarke, who rushed for 188 yards on only 12 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hampton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 472 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Hampton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Smith and Dre Clarke. Clarke got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Mineral Springs made easy work of Murfreesboro on Thursday and carried off a 30-6 victory.
Hampton's record now sits at 9-1. As for Mineral Springs, their record is now 4-6.
