Softball Game Preview: Kennedy Commanders vs. Lincoln Lancers

Kennedy has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lincoln recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Commanders will face off against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. Kennedy knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Lincoln likes a good challenge.

Kennedy lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Alameda, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's contest. The Commanders were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Pirates on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Commanders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Amerie Herrera was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in October of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Genesis Lujan was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Alexiah Lunas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .655. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lincoln was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 20-7 to Middle Park.

Kennedy's record now sits at 5-10-1. As for Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.

Everything went Kennedy's way against Lincoln in their previous matchup on September 11th, as Kennedy made off with a 19-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Commanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
