Softball Game Preview: Canyon Crest Academy Ravens vs. Morse Tigers

The Canyon Crest Academy Ravens will face off against the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon Crest Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Morse will be coming in after a loss.

If Canyon Crest Academy beats Morse with eight runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Canyon Crest Academy came out on top against Ramona by a score of 8-3 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Ravens as they're now sitting on three straight.

Sophie Kearse was incredible, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Julia Piekarski was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Kearse wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Canyon Crest Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. Canyon Crest Academy is undefeated (2-0) when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Morse came up short against Chula Vista on Monday and fell 5-1. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Alyssa Truby was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Truby was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one stolen base. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season.

Truby wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Thaliamia Richards, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Morse's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Canyon Crest Academy, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.

Canyon Crest Academy might still be hurting after the 14-7 loss they got from Morse in their previous matchup back in March of 2017.
