Basketball Recap: Willow Glen Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Leland wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Willow Glen, they should've done a better job of containing Natalia Valerio. The Willow Glen Rams took down the Leland Chargers 62-46 on Tuesday thanks in part to Valerio, who went 9 for 16 to rack up 23 points along with five boards and three steals. What's more, she also posted a 56% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024.

Another player making a difference was Lucia Diaz, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Willow Glen is undefeated when Diaz posts ten or more boards, but 7-8 otherwise.

Several Chargers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Diya Boyapati, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeynep Tepegoz, who posted five points along with eight boards and six assists.

The victory made it two in a row for Willow Glen and bumps their season record up to 14-8. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 37.8% in those games and 24.5% outside of them. As for Leland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Willow Glen will welcome Evergreen Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Willow Glen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.4 points per game this season. As for Leland, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Pioneer at 7:00 p.m.
