Softball Recap: Lexington Minutemen vs. Centennial Broncos
Lexington extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-17. They came up short against the Centennial Broncos, falling 13-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Minutemen of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.
As for Centennial, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 4th (when they won 15-0).
For Centennial's part, Riley Ziegler made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Ziegler has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024.
In other batting news, Centennial got a massive performance out of Nya Fischer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Lexington wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 16-0 defeat against Kearney Catholic on the 25th. As for Centennial, they are on the road again on Saturday to play Blue River at 9:00 a.m. Centennial's pitcher better be ready for this one: Blue River has averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
