Basketball Recap: El Primero Comes Up Short

El Primero was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 48-7 loss at the hands of the Gunderson Grizzlies. The Lobos lost against the Grizzlies in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 43-23 score last time.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gunderson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Juliana Ordaz-Tena, who posted 11 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Ordaz-Tena is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chiemi Wong, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

El Primero's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Gunderson, their record is now 2-6.

El Primero and Latino College Preparatory Academy will face off at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. As for Gunderson, they will challenge Piedmont Hills at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
