Preview: Harbor Pirates vs. Aptos Mariners
Harbor is 0-10 against the Mariners since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Harbor Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Aptos Mariners at 6:00 p.m. Harbor has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14.
Last Thursday, Harbor suffered a rough 39-16 defeat at the hands of the Cougars.
Malalai Martin Etemadi was Harbor's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Aptos' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 47-39 to Santa Cruz. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Aptos in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now lost six in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gabby Wickham, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Laurel Southall, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Harbor's defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.3 points per game. As for Aptos, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-8.
Harbor was dealt a bruising 51-24 loss at the hands of the Mariners when the teams last played back in January. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Harbor was down 29-8.
