Baseball Recap: Wesleyan Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Wesleyan ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the Providence Christian Academy Storm 3-2. The Wolves have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Storm, too.

Grayson McCollum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wesleyan is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. McCollum was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other pitching news, Thomas Pressman tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Wesleyan is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise.

Wesleyan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Providence Christian Academy's record is now 4-4.

Looking ahead, Wesleyan will be playing at home against St. Francis at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give Wesleyan their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. As for Providence Christian Academy, they will head out to face off against Rabun County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rabun County will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Providence Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
