Football Recap: Hobbs Takes Down Ranked Carlsbad

Hobbs faced Carlsbad in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles took down the Cavemen/Cavegirls 31-13. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Hobbs was led to victory by Junior Medrano and Shamus Wright. Medrano rushed for 107 yards and a pair of TDs, while Wright rushed for 88 yards and two scores. Medrano's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 107 rushing yards.

Hobbs didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Carlsbad to a completion percentage of just 46.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Adrian Mora, Gavin McPherson, and Amryn Wheeler, who each logged one passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Hobbs; they were averaging 57.6%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 57.6%.

Hobbs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Mora and Devin Ruiz. Another thorn in Carlsbad's side was Jeremiah Mackey, who picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made 12 total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Hobbs' record now sits at 8-2. As for Carlsbad, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Hobbs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Carlsbad, they will challenge Rio Rancho at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cavemen/Cavegirls will be up against the Rams' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
