Augusta E has gone 8-2 against Providence Athletic Club recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Augusta E has seven straight victories, Providence Athletic Club has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Augusta E took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Coastal HomeSchool, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Hurricanes 6-5.
Eli Poteet was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Poteet wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Graham Williams, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Williams has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Providence Athletic Club scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 13-10 to Augusta E.
Like Augusta E, Providence Athletic Club also got a great game from a two-way player: Evan Watt. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Watt was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Sean Mcnulty made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Joshua Williams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Augusta E's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Providence Athletic Club, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
Providence Athletic Club's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Augusta E has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Providence Athletic Club, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Augusta E keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
Augusta E beat Providence Athletic Club 13-10 when the teams last played on Monday. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
