Parkview extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-5. They came up short against the South Beloit Sobos, falling 17-7. On the bright side, the seven- run effort marked the Vikings' highest-scoring contest to date.
Mariah Roden put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off six hits. Roden was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. She also put up a hit, which was her first of the season.
Roden wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Abby Farnsworth, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, Farnsworth is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Makenna Phillips also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for South Beloit, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.0 runs this season.
Like Parkview, South Beloit also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophie Windsor. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Windsor was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Riley Hickman and Jasmine Fago did most of the damage at the plate: Hickman went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Fago got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Hickman a new career-high. Shelby Ambrose was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Looking ahead, Parkview will square off against Delavan-Darien at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for South Beloit, they will challenge West Carroll at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
