Basketball Recap: Mount Miguel Comes Up Short

Mount Miguel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a 54-23 loss at the hands of the Santana Sultans. The Matadors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-4.

Leading Santana to victory were Sam Mora and Kaliyah Cruz. Mora posted 17 points and three steals, while Cruz scored 14 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Cruz a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Diaz, who earned ten points and five rebounds.

Mount Miguel's defeat dropped their record down to 4-23. As for Santana, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Coming up, Mount Miguel will take on El Cajon Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. El Cajon Valley will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Mount Miguel surely won't give up without a fight. As for Santana, they will square off against West Hills at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. West Hills is on a four-game streak of home wins, Santana a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
