Recap: California Academy of Math & Science Rebels vs. Saint Joseph Jesters
This season hasn't been kind to the California Academy of Math & Science Rebels, who are still winless after their sixth matchup. They were beaten by Saint Joseph 56-14 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, California Academy of Math & Science can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1211th, while Saint Joseph is ranked 172nd).
Saint Joseph's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Olivia Martinez led the charge by scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Martinez is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maleda Bezuayeho, who scored six points along with four steals.
California Academy of Math & Science's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Saint Joseph, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which somehow isn't as good as their 7-1-1 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. California Academy of Math & Science will challenge Notre Dame Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Saint Joseph, they will head out on the road to face off against Cabrillo at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
