Baseball Game Preview: Jenkins Warriors vs. Savannah Country Day Hornets

Jenkins is 1-7 against Savannah Country Day since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Jenkins Warriors will welcome the Savannah Country Day Hornets at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jenkins has three straight victories, Savannah Country Day has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Jenkins' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past The Habersham School 10-0.

Jenkins got a great performance from Sam Best as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Best is becoming a predictor of Jenkins' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Crux Texidor was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Marquis Bush was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Savannah Country Day fell victim to Effingham County and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 10-0 to the Rebels. The game marked the first time this season in which the Hornets were not able to get on the board.

Savannah Country Day saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooks Kleinpeter, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. James Pannell also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Savannah Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Jenkins, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Savannah Country Day's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jenkins has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452. It's a different story for Savannah Country Day, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Jenkins' hitters?

Jenkins suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Savannah Country Day in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can Jenkins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
