Basketball Recap: Chaminade Comes Up Short

Chaminade lost to Marlborough on January 8th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Eagles came up short against the Mustangs, falling 63-42. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Mustangs are ranked 79th).

Marlborough's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amirah Muhammad, who shot 60% from the field en route to 22 points along with seven boards and five assists. The last time Muhammad's field goal percentage was this high was back in November of 2025. Another player making a difference was Leila Boykin, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Chaminade and nudges their season record down to 7-15. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 20-2 Sierra Canyon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 75.5% over those games). As for Marlborough, they pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chaminade will welcome Notre Dame (SO) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' defense better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 58 points per game this season. As for Marlborough, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sierra Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
