Basketball Recap: Miyanna Ruffin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Barstow over Silverado

Barstow lost against Silverado back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Barstow Aztecs fell just short of the Silverado Hawks by a score of 49-47. While losing is never fun, the Aztecs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1002nd, while the Hawks are ranked 444th).

Several Aztecs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miyanna Ruffin, who went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Emily Franco, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 16 points.

Silverado was led to victory by Nitzel Cuen and Londyn Dade. Cuen posted 15 points, while Dade had 12 points. Those 15 points gave Cuen a new career-high.

Barstow has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Silverado, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Barstow has already played their next match, a 54-45 loss against Granite Hills on the 22nd. As for Silverado, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-39 victory against Victor Valley on the 22nd.
