Baseball Recap: Schaumburg Christian Comes Up Short

Schaumburg Christian and Hiawatha squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Schaumburg Christian had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 9-7. The Conquerors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hawks earlier this season, when they won 13-7.

Ethan Broyles put in work no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Nathan Peterson and Jhomie Coleman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Peterson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Coleman went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Schaumburg Christian is 4-1 when Peterson posts two or more runs, but 4-7-1 otherwise.

Schaumburg Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8-1. As for Hiawatha, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-16-1 record this season.

As of now, neither Schaumburg Christian nor Hiawatha have any future games scheduled.
