Basketball Game Preview: McCool Junction Mustangs vs. Sutton Mustangs

Having just played yesterday, McCool Junction will get right back to it and host Sutton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, McCool Junction was able to grind out a solid victory over High Plains, taking the game 52-39. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Natalie Clark had an outrageously good game as she went 10-for-20 en route to 26 points in addition to seven steals and six rebounds. Those seven steals gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Brugger, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Sutton over H&H in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mustangs blew the Bearcats out of the water with a 65-14 final score. The team accrued 55 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.

McCool Junction better focus on containing Isabella Trejo and Kyla Griess as the pair were huge in Sutton's win. Trejo shot 70% from the field to rack up 15 points, while Griess earned six points and six steals. Griess is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Smith, who put up six points and three steals.

Sutton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

McCool Junction's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Sutton, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
