Softball Recap: Gatewood's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Gatewood hadn't done well against Thomas Jefferson Academy recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Gators were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Jaguars. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Riley Roberts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gatewood let Lily Arthur and Ellie McMillian run wild. Arthur went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while McMillian went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Colbie Stolley also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The victory (which was Gatewood's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Thomas Jefferson Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Gatewood will head out to challenge Windsor Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Thomas Jefferson Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Jenkins County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
