Preview: West Valley Mustangs vs. San Jacinto Tigers
West Valley is 1-9 against San Jacinto since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The West Valley Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the San Jacinto Tigers at 5:30 p.m. West Valley is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
West Valley won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Liberty, falling 41-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss West Valley has suffered since December 5, 2023.
Meanwhile, San Jacinto entered their tilt with Perris with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. San Jacinto took their match on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 74-7 win over Perris. San Jacinto has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 21 points or more this season.
San Jacinto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keyera Cameron led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds. Cameron hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Miyah Stevenson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 steals.
West Valley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season. As for San Jacinto, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.
West Valley took a serious blow against San Jacinto in their previous meeting on January 9th, falling 70-14. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point West Valley was down 36-9.
