The Heritage Patriots will head out to take on the Brentwood School Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Brentwood School will be up against a hot Heritage team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Heritage blew past Fallbrook, posting a 69-40 victory. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Warriors are ranked 480th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sierra Maxwell, who went 8 of 18 en route to 19 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. Another player making a difference was Legacy Benjamin, who went 10 for 14 to rack up 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Maxwell wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Heritage was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fallbrook only racked up three assists.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Brentwood School over Palos Verdes in every quarter on their way to victory on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Brentwood School blew Palos Verdes out of the water with a 76-39 final score. The Eagles pushed the score to 59-25 by the end of the third, a deficit the Sea Kings had no chance of recovering from.
Heritage better keep an eye on Logan Scott. She was instrumental in Brentwood School's win, going 8 of 10 on her way to 18 points and eight boards. Those 18 points gave Scott a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Sugar, who went 5 for 9 en route to 15 points and six rebounds.
Brentwood School has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.6 points over those games. As for Heritage, their record is now 19-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Heritage has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35 boards per game. However, it's not like Brentwood School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.6 rebounds.
