Preview: Heritage Patriots vs. Oakwood Owls
The Heritage Patriots will take on the Oakwood Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Heritage has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Heritage had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They blew past the Wildcats 79-32 at home. Heritage has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 22 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Sierra Maxwell, who scored 43 points along with 16 steals and 12 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 18 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Logan, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Oakwood came tearing into Thursday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 48-42 win over Serra. Given Oakwood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while Serra is ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Heritage's win bumped their record up to 18-11. As for Oakwood, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-5.
