Basketball Recap: Helix Skates Past Mount Miguel with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bishop's, Helix was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Mount Miguel Matadors, posting a 62-25 victory. The Highlanders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Leading Helix to victory were Cheyenne McMillan and Michaelle Whyte. McMillan went 8 of 19 on her way to 26 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals, while Whyte posted 18 points and three steals. With that strong performance, McMillan is now averaging an impressive 16.8 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Semaj Fort, who put up five points and seven rebounds.

Despite the loss, Mount Miguel still got an impressive performance from Laylah Castro, who posted 14 points. That was a full 56% of Mount Miguel's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Aiyanna Sinsay, who put up seven points.

Helix's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Mount Miguel, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

Helix didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-33 defeat against Grossmont on the 14th. As for Mount Miguel, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 42-37 loss against Valhalla on the 14th.
