Football Recap: Darin Smith and Tyler Bell Secure Win for Atholton

Atholton lost to Howard back in October of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Raiders walked away with a 37-28 victory over the Lions. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Leading Atholton to victory were Tyler Bell and Darin Smith. Bell rushed for 141 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, while Smith rushed for 113 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 141 rushing yards gave Bell a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Atholton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Howard lost, don't look at Donte Jones. Despite the final result, he rushed for 134 yards and two scores on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Darius Moore, who rushed for 107 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.

Atholton's record now sits at 5-2. As for Howard, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Atholton will square off against Oakland Mills at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Scorpions' defense has only allowed 8.9 points per game this season, so the Raiders' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Howard, they will take on Guilford Park at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Moore and Tyler Lee.
