Soccer Game Preview: Ventura vs. Buena

Ventura hasn't had much luck against Buena recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Ventura Cougars will face off against the Buena Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Both teams beat their previous opponents by a single goal, so this matchup might be just as contested.

Buena will be up against a hot Ventura squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Ventura skirted past Rio Mesa 2-1.

Olivia Mobley and Kaitlyn Wright scored both of Ventura's goals, bringing their combined season tally to seven goals.

Meanwhile, Buena kept a clean sheet against Oxnard on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged the Yellowjackets out 1-0. The win was all the more spectacular given the Bulldogs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 89th).

Ventura has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 13 goals over those five matchups. As for Buena, they now have a winning record of 7-6-2.

Ventura might still be hurting after the 5-0 loss they got from Buena in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Ventura avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
