Football Recap: Newbury Park Panthers vs. Millikan Rams
Newbury Park gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They claimed a resounding 52-15 victory over the Millikan Rams at home.
Brady Smigiel had an outrageously good game as he threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Alberto Ayon was Smigiel's top target, picking up 139 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Newbury Park's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Shane Rosenthal and Ayon. Ayon didn't just play on offense: he also made three total tackles and defended a pass in addition to snagging an interception.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Newbury Park was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 419 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Millikan only gained 292.
Although Millikan took the loss, they still got scores from Xavier Jones and JP Mialovski.
Newbury Park will face off against Arroyo Grande at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Millikan, they will welcome Carson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
