Softball Game Preview: Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs vs. Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes

The Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs will venture away from home to take on the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Winder-Barrow was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Sonoraville. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldoggs have posted since August 29, 2024.

Riley Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.

On the hitting side, Winder-Barrow secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Payton Boothe, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Monroe Area and Social Circle, and Monroe Area kept the tradition alive. The Purple Hurricanes came out on top against the Redskins by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday.

The victory got Monroe Area back to even at 2-2. As for Winder-Barrow, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Winder-Barrow took their victory against Monroe Area when the teams last played back in September of 2019 by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldoggs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
