Basketball Recap: Addison Teal Key Part of a Team Effort in Blazers Win

While Cumberland Valley Christian's victory against Mount Airy Christian Academy wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers had just enough and edged Mount Airy Christian Academy out 40-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Blazers also won the last time the pair played back in January.

Cumberland Valley Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addison Teal led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Teal has scored at least a third of Cumberland Valley Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Makenna Morris, who went 6 of 15 en route to 12 points along with six steals and five boards.

Despite the loss, Mount Airy Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avery Witter dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals. Those ten steals gave Witter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Apolenis, who posted eight points and 12 boards.

Cumberland Valley Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Mount Airy Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Cumberland Valley Christian and GVCS Broadfording will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Mount Airy Christian Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Harford Christian at 5:15 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
