Softball Recap: Seckman Has No Trouble Against Webster Groves

Seckman's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Webster Groves Statesmen with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Jaguars have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ella Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anna Rager, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Payton Bantle, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Seckman now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Webster Groves, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Seckman will square off against Jackson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Fighting Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Jaguars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Webster Groves, they will head out to face off against Lutheran South at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
