Football Game Preview: Saraland Spartans vs. Murphy Panthers

The Saraland Spartans will square off against the Murphy Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Saraland is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Friday, Saraland humbled St. Paul's Episcopal with a 42-10 victory. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six games by 28 points or more so far this season.

A big part of Saraland's win came down to the chemistry between Jamison Roberts and his top target Deshawn Spencer. Roberts threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes while Spencer gained 154 total yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthonio 'Pj' Brown, who gained 83 total yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Murphy's offense. They were outmatched by Baldwin County and fell 56-0. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Tigers are ranked 111th).

Murphy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Saraland, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.

Everything came up roses for Saraland against Murphy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 64-7 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
