McNair and Stagg are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The McNair Eagles will be playing at home against the Stagg Delta Kings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Stagg will be up against a hot McNair squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. McNair enjoyed a cozy 65-48 victory over Franklin on Thursday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 965th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
11/25/24 vs Christian Brothers | 38 |
01/04/24 @ Franklin | 38 |
12/19/23 vs Tokay | 35 |
11/20/23 @ Monterey Trail | 1 |
01/11/24 vs Weston Ranch | 32 |
McNair relied on the efforts of Kalysa Phanhsavang, who went 12 of 18 en route to 28 points along with six assists and six steals, and Anjulie Navarro, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 steals. That's the most points Phanhsavang has posted since back in November of 2024. Saniyah Robinson was another key player, putting up eight points.
Meanwhile, Stagg was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Weston Ranch 64-34. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Delta Kings just coasted through the last quarter.
McNair better keep an eye on Destiny Martinez. She was instrumental in Stagg's win, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten steals. Martinez's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Munoz, who posted eight points and five rebounds.
Stagg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive contests.
McNair has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Stagg, their win bumped their record up to 9-15.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: McNair has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Stagg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for McNair against Stagg when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 71-24 victory. In that game, McNair amassed a halftime lead of 32-9, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
