Newton typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Richland County proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 2-1. Surprisingly, this marked the sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Richland County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Root, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Cooper Hires, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Richland County's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Newton, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-2.
