No. 18 Corner Canyon pulls off huge upset with 35-34 win over No. 3 IMG Academy.

No. 18 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) just got its biggest win in program history with a 35-34 upset win over No. 3 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). After trailing 28-14 at halftime, the Chargers came out and scored 21 unanswered points and took their first lead of the game when five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles hauled in his third touchdown of the night to make it 35-28 with 4:45 left.

IMG Academy's sophomore running back Tranard Roberts scored from 8 yards out to cut the deficit to 35-34 with 1:33 left. The Ascenders elected to go for the 2-point conversion and Corner Canyon's senior defensive back Brock White made a great tackle on Ty Hawkins just short of the goaline.

The Chargers got a first down thanks to a defensive holding penalty on IMG Academy, then four-star junior quarterback Helamen Casuga iced the game with a first down run to seal the 35-34 victory. Casuga threw for four touchdowns to give him 10 on the season.

No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) opened the season with a 42-25 win over No. 8 Centennial (Corona, Calif.). Senior running back Jordon Davison got the Monarchs on the board first with a 44-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. New starting quarterback Dash Beierly threw for two first half touchdowns, with the first going to four-star sophomore tight end Mark Bowman and the second to five-star junior wide receiver Chris Henry Jr.

The Monarchs went into halftime with a 22-17 lead.

Junior Dominick Catalano got the start for the Huskies because five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet did not play because of a foot injury. He kept the Inland Empire power in the game but the top-ranked Monarchs pulled away in the second half outscoring Matt Logan's bunch 23-8.

Mater Dei's defense forced three turnovers and special teams had two blocked punts with one getting returned for a score by Tomuhini Topui. The Monarchs are off next week as they await No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) on Sept. 6

No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) beat No. 11 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) 29-21 in the Broward County Football Showcase to set up the 14th No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup on Sept. 6. The Gaels overcame a 21-10 deficit in the 3rd quarter with 19 unanswered points.

The Gaels took their first lead after a 3-yard touchdown run from Terrance Grant with 6:44 left. Alexander Perez and Brayton Correa got interceptions on the Raiders next two drives to seal the victory. The win sets up a matchup at No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) on Sept. 6. Both teams are idle next week.

No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) closed out the five MaxPreps Top 25 matchups with a 34-27 win over No. 9 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) on ESPN2. Maliq Blackwell-Allen scored the game-winning touchdown with a 71-yard score in the final frame and the Braves defense held late to prevail the victory.

No. 6 Milton (Ga.) took down No. 20 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) 37-28 on ESPN in the lone MaxPreps Top 25 matchup on Friday. The Eagles have now played five consecutive nationally-ranked opponents and beat them all.

Luke Nickel had another stellar night throwing for two scores as Georgia-bound tight end Ethan Barbour shined. He finished with six receptions for 172 yards and had two total touchdowns. TJ Lester racked up over 130 yards on the ground and two scores.

Malachi Toney and Byron Louis both had impressive nights for the Patriots. Toney hauled in two touchdowns, while Louis rushed for over 150 yards and a score.
